A tearful Jimmy Kimmel has returned to late night television after almost a week off air , insisting he never intended to make light of the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Fighting back emotions during his opening monologue, the US broadcaster told viewers: "It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it. Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual."
The 56-year-old presenter’s show Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled from ABC schedules last week after backlash over his remarks about Mr Kirk.
But following "thoughtful conversations" with the network, the programme was reinstated on Monday
