(CNN) - The cost of the American Dream has reached a nightmarish $5 million over a lifetime, according to a new analysis from Investopedia.

Affording the eight key components of the American Dream is getting more expensive. Those key components are retirement, owning a home, raising two children and paying for college, health care, buying a new car, yearly vacations, owning pets and paying for a wedding.

Caleb Silver, Investopedia’s editor in chief, says the company’s analysis shows the price tag for those classic middle-class aspirations is now more than $5 million over a lifetime.

“Every component of the American Dream has risen in price, not just over the past year, but really over the past 25 years,” Silver said.

He says several of these components have outpaced inflation.
