A development near the Catawba River may bring about 50 homes priced in the mid-$400,000s to Hickory.

Hickory City Council voted unanimously to approve the annexation of about 25 acres of land at 4643 16th St. Drive NE at the Sept. 16 city council meeting.

According to documents attached to the meeting’s agenda, “The owner intends to construct a 50-lot residential subdivision. Upon construction and occupancy of each dwelling, approximately 122 additional residents could be added to the city’s population.”

The document said the houses will be zoned for St. Stephens High in the Catawba County school district.
