VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach firefighters responded early Wednesday morning to a residential fire that displaced two adults and two children and left a family pet dead.

The blaze broke out around 3:06 a.m. in the 500 block of South Rosemont Road. When Virginia Beach Fire Department crews arrived, heavy smoke was pouring from the one-story, single-family home.

Firefighters quickly attacked the flames, bringing the fire under control within minutes. Crews reported water on the fire at 3:16 a.m., had it marked under control at 3:18 a.m., and fully out by 3:24 a.m.

Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen.

Four occupants were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization. No firefighters were injured. A family dog, however, was found
