(WSPA) -- South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced over $26 million in grants to support crime victim services across the state on Tuesday.
The funding includes $7 million earmarked for private nonprofit organizations that assist police departments and provide advocacy, shelters, and medical care for victims.
These funds will go towards projects that serve victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, providing emergency shelters and transitional housing. The grants are expected to benefit thousands in the Upstate region, with projects set to begin on October 1st.
The funding, which comes from both federal and state sources, was approved by the council earlier this year.
