St. John’s city council has now adopted, in principle, new neighbourhood plans for both the Cowan Heights and university areas of the city.

They did so during yesterday’s final public meeting before municipal elections next week.

The plans were put together by Alberta-based consultants O2 Planning and Design.

They identified more than a dozen areas of focus in both neighborhoods following exhaustive consultation with residents.

Amendments to the municipal plan must still be made and go before a future meeting of council for review, followed by a public hearing.

Similar plans are in the works for the central and Mundy Pond areas of the city.
