Darius Chukwuemeka, Smith’s first in class and football running back, got into building Lego sets when he was five or six years-old. At first, he wanted to figure it out on his own but quickly learned that actually following instructions would lead to the best outcome.
Chukwuemeka, a senior at Smith, plans to use his intelligence to become a civil and/or mechanical engineer, blending his mother Dana Collins’s traits of patience as a family medicine doctor with his father Dennis Chukwuemeka’s math skills as a finance professional.
“As a kid, I always liked building stuff,” Chukwuemeka said. “I like solving problems. I like knowing that I could have a problem and I could solve it and that led me to engineering. I could be a problem solver and get paid to do it.”
