STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Colombian artist Tatiana Arocha’s exhibition about exploring the cultural legacy of the coca plant will debut next month at Snug Harbor Cultural Center’s Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art.

The exhibit, titled ‘Entre la Coca y el Oro’ (which translates to ‘Between Coca and Gold’), will debut on Oct. 12 and be located on the Livingston campus in Building C in the Main Hall Gallery. It dives into the cultural, ecological, and historical significance of the coca plant, and is meant to spark conversations about healing, tradition, and cultural resilience. The project intertwines art and activism to challenge the harmful narratives created by the War on Drugs.
