NEW ORLEANS — Pope Leo XIV has appointed Most Reverend James Checchio, JCD, MBA, of the Diocese of Metuchen, as Coadjutor Archbishop of New Orleans.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond introduced Archbishop Checchio at a press conference on Wednesday.

As Coadjutor Archbishop, Checchio will assist Archbishop Aymond in his leadership role and has the right of succession upon Aymond’s retirement.

"Archbishop Aymond will continue in his role as Archbishop of New Orleans until the bankruptcy is concluded and other matters of pastoral care of the archdiocese are accomplished," t he Archdiocese of New Orleans said in a release.
