Local governments across Ohio will soon be required to launch cybersecurity programs aimed at safeguarding data and keeping government operations running in the event of a cyber attack.

The new standards were approved by the legislature earlier this year through House Bill 96 and signed by Gov. Mike DeWine on June 30. Provisions of the new law will begin to take effect at the end of September. Advertisement

"Under the new law, local governments must adopt a cybersecurity program that safeguards their data, information technology, and information technology resources to ensure availability, confidentiality, and integrity," according to CyberOhio.
