COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — A Coldwater police dog led officers to an assault suspect who was hiding in the woods early Wednesday morning, authorities say.

Around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to an address on Butters Avenue on the city's west side. There, a man had reportedly assaulted a woman and shown a knife, according to the Coldwater Police Department.

Police said the man ran away before they arrived, so they brought in K-9 Murph to find him.

The dog led officers to the suspect, who was hiding in a bush in the nearby woods, according to the police department.

The 35-year-old Coldwater man was arrested and jailed for assault and battery, police said.

Earlier this year, K-9 Murph helped officers find a man suspected of stealing a bicycle.
