Wheatland County’s top elected official is calling for accountability, after an audit conducted by the provincial health authority found a local ambulance provider “misappropriated” nearly $1 million in public funds.
Reeve Amber Link, who has been at the helm of the rural municipality east of Calgary since October 2018, said the findings point to deeper governance problems in the region.
“This situation is a devastating example of the abhorrent governance that a small group of municipal elected officials in our region continue to perpetuate, that undermines transparency, accountability and, ultimately, public trust,” Link said in a statement shared on her personal Facebook account.
“We all deserve answers. We all deserve to know where these tax dollars have gone.”
