BRIDGETON — A city woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after she allegedly damaged a gas meter with a brick, causing the surrounding area to be evacuated, police said.
Ashley Gonzales, 21, was charged with three counts of criminal mischief. She's being held in the Cumberland County jail pending court.
Officers responded to the 100 block of North Laurel Street at noon for a reported gas leak, and determined Gonzales intentionally damaged the gas meter, police said.
Members of the city's fire and police departments along with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office helped evacuate nearby residents, police said Wednesday in a news release.
Gonzales was located shortly thereafter and taken into custody, police said.
