An actor from Port Republic who allegedly shot a woman in the face during a road rage incident near Stockton University two weeks ago was ordered held in jail until trial Thursday.

Ernest Heinz, 46, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Heinz, wearing a jail-issued orange jumpsuit with his hair slicked back, did not speak during his detention hearing before Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Waldman. He appeared in court via videoconference from jail.

Galloway Township police responded to a call for a shooting near Jimmie Leeds Road and Redwood Avenue at 12:52 p.m. Sept. 11. The intersection is across from the main entrance to the school.
