Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. was seriously injured after being thrown from his horse at Churchill Downs. The spill fractured seven ribs and lacerated his liver.

Hernandez, who won the 2024 Kentucky Derby aboard Mystik Dan and Oaks aboard Thorpedo Anna, has undergone two successful procedures in 48 hours.

The jockey expressed gratitude for the support from his family, agent, medical staff and the racing community.
