The DWP will soon start paying out Winter Fuel Payments to millions of pensioners - but not everyone is eligible for the financial boost.

The support is worth up to £300 and aims to help older people manage with their energy bills during the colder months.

Payments will start entering bank accounts from November - £300 for those aged over 80 and £200 for those under 80.

The support was previously universal for all pensioners but that has now changed.

Around 75% of retirees will receive the winter allowance this year.

In order to qualify, they will need to have an annual income under £35,000.
