City Councilors Ed Flynn, Erin Murphy and John FitzGerald today asked for a vote on a resolution opposing the siting of any facilities in Boston where addicts could go to shoot up under medical supervision, saying the last thing the city should do is encourage more drug use.

The resolution was defeated 8-3, with other councilors noting nobody is actually proposing such a specific facility now for Boston and that state legislation that might allow one is a long way from passage, let alone actual implementation, so they would rather do more research about the proposed facilities before voting on them.
