ALBANY, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation -- along with Governor Kathy Hochul, announced on Wednesday that parts of New York State, including areas of the Southern Tier, are now under a drought warning.

The announcement -- released on Wednesday, Sept. 24 -- puts 12 different counties in the Adirondacks and Southern Tier of New York State under the drought warning, the second least severe of the four drought advisories. The rest of New York State is still under the lowest advisory, a Drought Watch.

“The less-than-normal amounts of rain have led to dry conditions for many counties in New York, resulting in the Adirondacks and Southern Tier counties being elevated to drought warning status and Susquehanna counties elevated to drought watch,”
