Nongpoh: A fatal road traffic accident occurred at Nongpoh opposite Nongpoh Civil Hospital, on Wednesday night at around 10:20 pm.

According to police, the incident took place when a motorcycle (ML 05 Y 3698 KTM Duke), ridden by an unidentified person, was travelling from the wrong side and collided head-on with a night bus (AS 01 GV 3288) coming from Guwahati and proceeding towards Shillong. The impact of the collision caused the bus to catch fire, leading to it being completely gutted.

The motorcycle rider sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot, while passengers of the bus were evacuated safely. Fire and Emergency Services from Nongpoh Station swiftly responded to the scene and managed to douse the flames, preventing further damage.
