Shillong, Sept 24: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills District to request the agitating employees to vacate the GHADC premises and refrain from obstructing any workers willing to perform their duties, within seven days.
The directive came while hearing a public interest litigation filed by Tokyo R Marak, seeking the court’s intervention to address the ongoing strike by non-gazetted staff of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council. The strike, which began on July 29, 2025, has crippled the functioning of the GHADC, severely impacting public services. The employees are protesting over non-payment of 43 months’ pending salaries and other demands.
The court also directed the petitioner to serve notice to the President or Secretary of the
