DES MOINES, Iowa — The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) has rescued over 100 dogs from hazardous living conditions at a property in Plymouth County. The rescue operation occurred after an urgent call from the county sheriff’s office.

On Wednesday, ARL’s team found 111 dogs and puppies living in unsanitary conditions, with high ammonia levels detected in the area. Many dogs were found in a house, while about 40 were confined in a small shed.

The ARL, already at full capacity, quickly set up emergency housing for the animals. The dogs are now safe but require grooming, dental surgeries, and additional medical care.

With over 1,500 animals in its care, the ARL is seeking donations to support these dogs.

The investigation is ongoing.
