SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) has been awarded a $5.5 million grant to help reduce wildfire risk in the community.

The grant comes from the U.S. Forest Service's Community Wildfire Defense Grants (CWDG) program and fully funds SVFD’s proposal to strengthen local capacity for wildfire prevention, expand public education on wildfire hazards and safety practices and carry out targeted mitigation efforts in vulnerable areas.

“This award represents a significant step forward in strengthening our wildfire mitigation efforts, helping to keep our community and its residents safer,” SVFD Fire Chief Frank Soto Jr. said.
