WILLIMANTIC, CT (WFSB) - State leaders hope a new resource at Windham Hospital could help combat the nursing shortage in Connecticut.

A new lab opened on Wednesday for students at Eastern Connecticut State University.

The lab has eleven interactive mannequins to train on.

Students can take its pulse, temperature, etc. to give future nurses the experience they will need.

“We had an aging population of nurses and now we need to train some young ones,” said Yaw Nsiah, ECSU Health Sciences & Nursing Chair.

ECSU recently added a nursing major. Those students will train at this new lab.

“It gives them confidence and lets them be much more successful,” said Donna Handley, President of Backus & Windham Hospitals

The lab has mannequins of all ages. Each one is controlled by a tablet.
