The White House is demanding an investigation after an escalator at United Nations headquarters came to an abrupt stop — as First Lady Melania Trump stepped onto it.

With her husband U.S. President Donald Trump right behind her on the escalator in the entrance hall of the New York building, video shows the moving stairs come to a jolting halt.

Both Trumps initially appeared confused.

The escalator adjacent to theirs remained operational, but the couple continued to walk up the steps of the frozen one.

UN staffers reportedly tossed around the idea of stalling escalators and elevators in the building as a way to highlight funding shortfalls the organization has faced under Trump, the Times of London reported.
