Gov. Joe Lombardo has resolved a long-running ethics case tied to his 2022 campaign’s use of his sheriff’s badge and uniform.

The Nevada Commission on Ethics announced Tuesday that Lombardo admitted to a non-willful ethics violation and agreed to pay $5,000. The settlement ends a dispute that began in 2021, when Lombardo was Clark County sheriff and running for governor.

According to the agreement, Lombardo’s campaign posted four images of him in uniform or wearing a sheriff’s badge or lapel pin on social media. The commission initially found four willful violations and fined him $20,000. But earlier this year, the Nevada Supreme Court sent the case back to district court after ruling his petition for judicial review had been wrongly dismissed.
