PALATKA, Fla. — A lifesaving effort caught on camera as Putnam County Sheriff's deputies were called out to a suicide attempt at the Memorial Bridge Sunday, ultimately saving the man who jumped.

"It's heartstopping," said Sergeant Alex Drummond.

Drummond says that's what the moment felt like when he saw a man fall from the top of the Memorial Bridge in Palatka, which is estimated to be 65 feet tall.

"As soon as I got there, it was a matter of a couple minutes," said Drummond. "He just looked over and jumped."

Drummond didn't let that chilling moment stop him - as he immediately started thinking about what had to happen next.

"I actually looked over the railing to verify he was still alive," said Drummond. "He was, so my next step was to reach out to a boat."
