RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Reno Dr. Samuel R. Chacon was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 24, after a grand jury returned an indictment charging him with health care fraud and eight counts of making false statements related to health care matters, according to a news release from Sigal Chattah, the acting United States attorney for Nevada.

The OB-GYN’s trial date is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18.

If Chacon is convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Chacon made his initial court appearance Wednesday for allegedly defrauding health care benefit programs by submitting false claims for unnecessary gynecologic tests and surgical procedures, some resulting in serious medical complications, according to the release and court documents.
