The University of Montana is celebrating American Indian Heritage Day this week with themed days and a series of events on the statewide holiday on Sept. 26.
American Indian Heritage Day has been celebrated in Montana on the last Friday of September each year since 1997, and 2025 is the 28th year UM is hosting celebrations on campus. Events include a sunrise ceremony and a craft fair.
Montana's Office of Public Instruction also shared resources for teachers to share with students about Native history in Montana, including a webinar hosted by wellness instructor and comedian Kasey Nicholson, a member of the A'aa'niii'nin out of Fort Belknap. The webinar is open to all and is scheduled on Sept. 25 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., with the zoom link available online.
