CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Flanked by two dozen members of local law enforcement, Vice President J.D. Vance spoke at length Wednesday about criminal justice reform after the light rail killing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska.
Vance, speaking inside a hangar at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport, urged North Carolina Governor Josh Stein to sign “ Iryna’s Law .”
If signed, the bill would impose stricter pretrial bail requirements.
“I guarantee if this bill is signed into law, it would help our incredible law enforcement keep the streets safe, and that’s ultimately all I really care about,” Vance said. “Again, it breaks my heart to think you have young kids, especially in poor communities, black or white, who don’t feel like they can walk outside.”
Vance said the federal government is
