RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Having resources in place before a disaster strikes can make recovery easier.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management focuses on preparation, response, and recovery in the event of natural or man-made disasters.

“And what we’re responsible for is ensuring that the Commonwealth is one ready to respond to disasters, whether they be, a natural disaster or a manmade, disaster. And then, you know, ensuring that readiness for the eventual actual response that we have to execute,” Andy John, Deputy State Coordinator for Operations of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, said.
