Heeding a sergeant’s command “Don’t let him get to people!” yelled from afar, a Springfield detective fired two rifle shots into the back of a man who had bolted into an occupied car wash after stabbing two officers, according to the Lane County’s district attorney.

Prosecutor Christopher Parosa described the deadly encounter in a review that found the July 30 police shooting of Daniel A. Kahn justified.
