SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- New York State lawmakers and child welfare workers are pushing to get a bill passed into legislation that would ban anonymous tips of child abuse.

The Deputy Commissioner for Children and Family Services in Onondaga County, Kelly Varamogiannis, said she is hoping the banning of anonymous tips would give investigators more information to work with when trying to help a child.

"One of the steps in the CPS process is having a conversation with the source of the report," Varamogiannis said. "If the source is anonymous, that step can't be done, because the investigator doesn't know who to call."

Varamogiannis wants everyone to know that if you want to call in a report, you don't need to worry about your identity being shared.
