SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Exercise caution if you have any nighttime travel plans along Interstate 81 in Syracuse, as there's a planned lane closure.

The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting drivers that I-81 southbound will be reduced to one lane between Exit 17 (S Salina Street/Brighton Avenue) and Exit 78 (Onondaga Nation/Nedrow) in the City of Syracuse from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., weeknights, beginning Thursday, Sept. 25, and continuing through Saturday, Sept. 27.

The reduction will take place to facilitate the installation of a drainage pipe as part of the I-81 Viaduct Project.

Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
