AKRON, Ohio — A historic Akron landmark could soon face demolition if a developer is not found to save it. The Firestone Plant #1 building located at 1200 Firestone Parkway has been granted a short reprieve.

However, the city is on the clock to find a plan that will preserve part of the site’s legacy.

Akron City Council approved an agreement Monday giving the city until November 21 to secure a developer willing to repurpose the 115-year-old building. If no developer steps forward, the entire building could be demolished.

At a Monday committee meeting, Councilman Donnie Kammer expressed concern about the city’s commitment to aggressively seeking redevelopment opportunities before the deadline.
