DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate has issued a statement following reports of errors made by school board secretaries and city clerks ahead of the 2025 election.

Voters will have to write-in candidates’ names because of the errors.

At least seven counties reported that filing officers failed to submit candidate paperwork to county auditors by the 12:00 p.m. deadline on September 19.

In the statement, Pate expressed his disappointment regarding the mistakes made after providing filing officers with extensive training.

Pate said the errors have impacted at least 34 candidates across more than seven counties, six cities, and three school districts.

The following counties and jurisdictions were impacted by the errors:

Calhoun County

City of Jolley

Chickasaw Co
