DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- An Enterprise native playing for the St. Louis Cardinals made history in the MLB Tuesday night.

Second baseman Brendan Donovan had been initially out of Tuesday's lineup due to "groin stiffness" after an injury.

According to a report from the MLB, Donovan had worked throughout the day to prepare for Tuesday's game. He informed the St. Louis manager that he was able to play that night just two hours before the game, prompting the manager to adjust the lineup.

Donovan tied an MLB record with four doubles and helped lead a 9-8 victory over the Giants.

The St. Louis Cardinals' website shows the 28-year-old was born in Germany and raised in Enterprise.
