ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Thousands of people are expected to make their way to Albuquerque for the 53rd Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

But law enforcement wants to make sure visitors do not fall victim to criminals while in Albuquerque for the nine-day event.

"It's a lot of break-ins, a lot of burglaries, car burglaries, residential burglaries at times, because they know people are leaving the house really early in the morning," said Sgt. Conner Otero with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office.

Many people coming to Albuquerque for the event are tourists, and officials want to make sure they are prepared while visiting town. Over the years, law enforcement has been called to places across Albuquerque for stolen cars, trailers, or hot air balloons.
