ESSEX COUNTY, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) - According to New York officials, rangers have taken part in over a hundred search and rescue missions in the state so far this year. This past Saturday night, rangers responded to four separate calls on Essex County trails.

Two hikers on Bear Den Mountain in Keene called for help at 4:08 p.m. Saturday after they went off-trail and found themselves stuck in dense brush near Gravestone Brook. One forest ranger was able to reach them at 7:40 p.m. with food, water, and headlamps. The pair reportedly had no reliable way to navigate or extra layers as temperatures fell into the 30s, but they were able to make it back to the trailhead.
