Mayors and councillors from across British Columbia gathered on the steps of the provincial legislature this week, urging the provincial government to hear their communities’ concerns.

Leonard Krog, the mayor of Nanaimo, said he was there to advocate for his community.

“I just want to say to my fellow British Columbians, this is not the British Columbia that our citizens deserve,” Krog said.

He and others are pleading for help from the province to deal with street disorder. They say crime and violence are hurting the vibrancy of their communities.

Jess Ketchum, co-founder Save Our Streets Coalition, said a poll conducted by the group found that 57 per cent of British Columbians are fearful for their families in their communities.
