At the corner of Central Saanich Road where Lindsay Burgess lost her life nearly a year ago, little has changed.

Fresh flowers still cycle through, as steady traffic passes by.

For fellow cyclist and organizer Lister Farrar, the tragedy is never far from mind. “I think about it every day,” he said. “And I’m sure her family thinks about it more than that.”

Burgess’s death is top of mind for many heading into what would have been the 10th anniversary of the Tripleshot CrossFondo, a mass participation community ride that has now been cancelled.

The CrossFondo was one of Vancouver Island’s biggest cycling events. Last year, 500 riders pedaled a mixed-terrain route across four municipalities, including Central Saanich, where the fatal collision happened.
