CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The West Texas A&M University Police Department is warning students and staff to be on alert after receiving multiple reports of internet scams targeting the campus community.

According to WT Police, the scams have been occurring since July and remain ongoing. Officials said scammers are primarily using social media to solicit money, personal information, banking details and photos.

Assistant Chief Kyle Hawbaker said the department is urging students and staff not to share sensitive information in response to unsolicited requests. “If something feels suspicious, trust your instincts and verify before acting,” Hawbaker said.
