BRADDOCK, Pa. —

The Board of Directors at U.S. Steel has approved the next phase of capital investment plans, with the company submitting a permit to the Allegheny County Health Department as part of a new project.

In a release from the U.S. Steel Corporation on Wednesday, an air construction permit is in the process of being submitted to the county health department for a new slag recycler at the Edgar Thomson Works plant. Advertisement

The plant, located in Braddock, is where basic steel production takes place.

If the permit is approved by ACHD, the steel company said engineering planning will be finalized, and construction will be expected to begin next year.

According to the release, the project is expected to cost $100 million.
