HOUGHTON, MI — A Michigan Tech student accused of stealing 900 American flags from a 9/11 memorial on campus has been arrested and charged.
Avery Brynn Lawrence, 21, was arraigned Wednesday, Sept. 24, in 97th District Court in Houghton County on one misdemeanor charge of malicious destruction of tombs and memorials, causing between $200 and $1,000 in damage.
Lawrence faces up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000 or three times the value of the damage, whichever is greater, according to state statute.
She was issued a $300 bond and is due back in court on Oct. 20 for a pretrial hearing, according to court records. A not guilty plea was entered.
