RUSK, Texas — Rusk football player Aiden Adams is recovering from a serious injury suffered last Friday in a game against Troup.
Injuries are a natural part of football, but UIL does not require an ambulance to be present at high school games. When games are played in more rural communities, ambulance response times can increase, also putting players at risk.
"The biggest inconvenience is not having those emergency response vehicles immediately accessible," Cody Welch, Rusk athletic director and head football coach, said.
In a statement, UIL said that schools are not required to have ambulance service at games because the lack of available services in some areas would make playing games difficult if the rule was enforced.
