TACOMA, Wash. — A routine walk at a popular Tacoma park turned tragic for Tacoma resident Kenneth Gentili, after his small dog collapsed and died within minutes, in what he believes was a fentanyl overdose.

The incident occurred two months ago at Owen Beach in Point Defiance Park, where Gentili often walked with his dog. The outing took a devastating turn when the dog ate something from under a bench in the children’s play area.

“I was trying to grab her mouth to open it up,” Gentili said. “It was so small, I couldn’t even see what she ate.”

They continued walking, but quickly, his dog began foaming at the mouth and became lethargic. Gentili said she collapsed and died shortly after.

“She was dead in five minutes,” he said.

Two bystanders helped him rush the dog to a nearby veterinary
