SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The stress of starting a new job is a familiar feeling for many people. New Sioux City Community School District Superintendent Dr. Juan Córdova felt that even more so when he learned he's the district's first-ever Hispanic Superintendent.
"It's a phenomenal honor," Dr. Córdova said. "Quite frankly, it's an enormous amount of pressure."
Dr. Córdova was born in Puerto Rico, but his father served in the military. So, he moved from place to place growing up. He said it was quite a culture shock when he moved to Kansas.
"I told them what my name was. It was Juan. They said, 'How do you spell that?' and I put Juan, so that's Joan, and then I'm like 'No, it's Juan,' and we went back and forth and at that point in my life as a pre-teen, I decided just to call myself J
