OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Iowa transfer Owen Freeman is getting closer to returning to action.

“I’m shooting, cutting, jumping. I just started dunking yesterday, so I’m moving pretty quick,” Freeman said at Wednesday’s practice. “I’m gonna be back soon.”

After the 6-foot-10 junior suffered a knee injury that required surgery this offseason, his head coach was a bit more cautious about his timeline.

“He’s not as close as he thinks he is. We’ve had to keep the brakes on him,” Greg McDermott said with a laugh. “Protocol says four to six months. I certainly think he’s going to be on the front end of that. My hope is that by the time the Iowa State scrimmage rolls around that he is at least back on the practice floor.”
