US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the White House today. This meeting follows a recent trade agreement between the two nations and comes after their brief interaction at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The relationship between the US and Pakistan has improved in recent months, even as tensions have risen between the US and India over various issues, including visa restrictions and tariffs on Indian goods. A senior State Department official stated, "We're working through a number of issues when it comes to counter-terrorism, when it comes to economic and trade ties."

Earlier this year, Trump hosted Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, marking a significant moment as it was the first time a US president met the head of Pakistan's military without senior civilian officials present.

Sharif's visit to Washington follows his attendance at the UN Climate Summit, where he expressed concerns about Pakistan's growing debt. On Tuesday, he had an informal discussion with Trump alongside leaders from eight Islamic-Arab countries, focusing on diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to address the conflict in Gaza.

In addition to the meeting with Sharif, Trump is expected to sign executive orders today, including a deal regarding TikTok's operations in the US. This deal aims to ensure that TikTok is managed by American investors and overseen by a board with national security expertise.

The meeting with Sharif is seen as a crucial step in advancing US interests in the region, particularly in light of the evolving dynamics between the US, Pakistan, and India.
