The Baptist English School in Lunglei town of Mizoram, also the biggest educational institution in the town, has been forced to close for two days following a sharp rise in seasonal viral fever cases among students and staff.
School authorities said the decision came after consultations with medical experts as the number of affected students climbed steadily over the past week. On Monday, 325 students reported sick, which jumped to 528 by Tuesday. Several teachers were also reported unwell and unable to take classes.
