Paul McLaughlin was murdered on this day, 30 years ago, by a city gang leader.
The beloved prosecutor was hunted down and shot once in the temple for doing his job.
McLaughlin, who was 42, was an assistant attorney general working out of the Suffolk DA’s office and was a day away from prosecuting his killer when he was slain on Sept. 25, 1995, as he was getting into his car in West Roxbury shortly after stepping off a commuter rail train.
McLaughlin was the first, and only, prosecutor in Massachusetts to give his life in the line of duty.
He was assigned to an anti-gang unit launched to win back the streets of Boston. He died protecting the city he loved, and his sacrifice cannot be forgotten. Not today, not any day.
